The story of Kinesys is a personal one for me. The inspiration, which I mention in the video below, came as my 30th birthday arrived, and I started thinking about my health and future.

As I exercised more and spent more times outdoors, I was absorbing more and more UV radiation. I loved being outdoors but I hated smearing on thick creams, as most of us do, for sun protection. Then Josie, my partner and wife, told me about a sunscreen product idea from her days as a cosmetics marketing representative. 

Our goal was to make active living easier to enjoy without taking on the risks that come with unprotected exposure to the sun. It's ironic to think about how many of us, myself included, hit the pavement for a run to take control of our health, but forget how critical it is to protect our biggest organ, our skin. 

Almost 16 years ago I thought that if we could make a spray-on sunscreen that was easy to apply, dried without any residue, I could get the biggest group of "non-user" to use sunscreen--50.1% of the population- MEN. Easy to apply, non-greasy and worked, how simple was that? or as I marketed "the sunscreen for people who hate sunscreen".

Of course, I was wrong. Over time we found that women buy the majority of skin care products. Thankfully, women loved it as well and bought it for their husbands, boyfriends and kids. 

Since my days in the liquor industry, I did a complete 180 and am now supporting healthy living which to me includes the health of the planet. Had I not sought out the help of a rather cute personal trainer, I never would have met Josie my business partner, wife, and the mother of our three incredible children. I also may not have found my way out of the Vancouver rain, to the beautiful Bay Area, where I thankfully live and work.
