From Hippy Paper Company to Mainstream

A decade ago, recycled paper had more 'character' and was typically kraft colored, with natural flecks, sold by a limited number off companies, and was pretty far from being mainstream.  That was the context in which New Leaf Paper was born with a mission to inspire a fundamental shift in the paper industry towards sustainability.

Initially, a partnership with values aligned businesses such as Whole Foods and Avalon Organics, helped us establish credibility but we were quickly able to partner with much larger, and mainstream, organizations such as Bank of America.  In addition, we solved for a way to help companies communicate the value of their choice to consumers by illustrating the resource savings associated with the move to recycled and post-consumer waste paper, in the form of our Eco Audit.  With over 10,000,000 Eco Audits in circulation, printed on everything from Harry Potter books to annual reports, we have begun to establish our name with consumers and engage them in the change we seek.

Understanding our collective ability to affect change, we launched a retail products division a little over 2 years ago, with an aim to engage the mainstream.  Our focus has been on designing products with both style & substance, the vast majority of which are made with paper that is 100% recycled and 100% post-consumer waste.  We still have much to learn, but appreciate the presence in Office Depot, Barnes & Noble, Duanne Reed, Whole Foods and others, which have proven that our mission and products resonate with consumers.

Amazingly you would never know from looking at the majority of our products, that they are made with leading environmental paper, or processed chlorine free, or made with renewable energy, and yet they are.  I guess it is true, that you really can’t judge a book by its cover.  We look forward to hearing more from you about what you would like to see and why you believe each eco purchase decision makes a difference.
